Puppets and Pandemonium had the absolute pleasure of spending a week in July 2011
working with the children and staff of Cameley Primary School. The project, funded by the National Heritage, was called
'Lake Odyssey'. The brief was to create a performance in a week that would be put on at a big event held at Chew Valley
Lake on 16/7/2011. The themes we could use were the 1950's, Local Mythology and the Creation of the Lake. In the
first half of the week we helped the whole school to make individual puppets of mythological or water creatures of
their own. During this process we collectively came up with a story about how the lake was created by Elvis Presley which
attracted a big monster to the area who now hides at the bottom of the lake. The three eldest classes joined in
together to make a great big Elvis Puppet and a water Monster. The children all worked incredibly hard through all this
building, displaying amazing artistic talent and learning new practical skills along the way. Then on the Friday a total
of about 25 pupils from across all the age groups rehearsed the show so it was ready to be performed at
the Lake Odyssey Event the next day. Thanks to everyone involved being so enthusiastic and cooperative everything went according
to plan and the show was a great success. Puppets and Pandemonium would like to thank the Staff of Cameley Primary
School for being so supportive during this project, Christy Grimes for her fantastic assistance throughout the entire week
and of course all the Pupils for being such wonderful artists and puppeteers.
